keladi kemahang

Lemang

Lemang is my most favourite dish during Hari Raya or Eid.

Lemang is a traditional glutinous rice food and dish that is always found and served during the Eid. Commonly it is served with chicken or beef rendang.

It is made of glutinous rice and coconut milk and cooked in a hollowed bamboo stick lined with banana leaves in order to prevent the rice from sticking to the bamboo.

If you want to know more on how lemang is made and cooked please click here.

roti canai

a unique roti canai stall located at Level 3 of Lipis Centerpoint.

Roti canai or prata bread is a form of puffed bread serverd hot with curry or dhal. Usually taken for breakfast together with teh tarik.

Lately there are various improvements (with additional ingredients) used on plain roti to suit Malaysians. For example roti telur bawang (eggs and onions), roti planta (butter), roti sardin, roti bawang (onions), roti tampal ( sticked eggs) and so on.

Mr. Pietra and his wife, the tourists from Austria, are relaxing after having their roti sardin.

Tapai

Tapai is made from steamed glutinous rice with an addition of yeast and glucose. The concoction is packed and then incubates to fully fermented prior to serving. Traditionally offered during the wedding banquet, or taken as a snack at home.

Glutinuous tapai is one of our traditional food. This kind of food/snack is very popular in the east coast of Malaysia.

The taste is very sweet.

*aku sebut tapai. ada setengah kawasan kampung di lepih ni panggil tapei(tapir). macam-macam bunyi! haha!

petai

Parkia speciosa (petai, bitter bean, sataw, twisted cluster bean, yongchaa, yongchaak, zawngtah or stink bean), is a plant of the genus Parkia in the family Fabaceae. It bears long, flat edible beans with bright green seeds the size and shape of plump almonds which have a rather peculiar smell, characterised by some as being similar to that added to methane gas. ( more in wikipedia)
