istana hinggap


Originally this building was the residence for the British Officer. The British began to build this building in 1926. However, when Menteri Besar post was created in 1948, this building has been beautify and renovated to make YAB Menteri Besar Pahang official residence. Below were list of Menteri Besar Pahang believed to have stayed in this house :

Dato' Setia Wangsa Sir Mahmud bin Mat (MCS., OBE)
- 1 February 1948 to 1 February 1951

YAM. Tengku Panglima Perang Tengku Muhammad Ibni Al Marhum Sultan Ahmad (CBE) - 1 February 1951 to 1 February 1955 /
- 15 June 1955 to 8 January 1957

Orang Kaya Indera Shah Bandar Dato' Abdul Razak bin Dato' Hussien (MCS)
- 1 February 1955 to 15 June 1955

As in the list above, Menteri Besar resided the house until 1955. This was due to the transfer of Pahang State Capital from Kuala Lipis to Kuantan on the following year.

Among the historic event that has been carried out in this palace was Wedding Ceremony of KDYMM Sultan Pahang and KDYMM Tengku Ampuan Hajah Afzan binti Tengku Mohamad on 22 April 1954. According to some Village Chief' that we met, this palace is a symbol of King Sovereignty and National Unity. ( source and more pics click : MDL's page).

house of former secretary


A house where Pahang Darul Makmur's State Secretary stayed. This historic house was completed in 1920.

Our current Prime Minister, Dato' Sri Mohd Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak, was born and brought up here. His father, the late Tun Abdul Razak used to reside in this house when he was the Secretary for the government of Pahang.

Nurse Hostel



This building was built in 1926. Since that this hostel became the accommodation for nurses and student nurses in Kuala Lipis Hospital.

Resident Hill's Rest House



This building was built in 1922, at the highest hilltop of Kuala Lipis. The first English Resident who stayed in this building was Sir Hugh Clifford. He was also known as 'the Superintendent of Ulu Pahang'.

This rest house is one of the budget accommodation for tourists that you can get in Kuala Lipis.

Pahang Club


It was the earliest building built by the British in 1907. This building site was the first base where the English first administer Pahang. The purpose of building this house was for Sir Hugh Clifford's at upon of time was the Ulu Pahang Suprintendent who resided in Kuala Lipis.

In June 1898, Kuala Lipis had replaced Pekan as the capital state of Pahang. From the date this house was the official house of the British Resident. During that time the British Resident was Sir Hugh Clifford and planned to build a more suitable residence to monitor Lipis area. Later he found Bukit Resident a more suitable site. While waiting for the house in Bukit Resident to be completed, he resided in the Pahang Club House till 1922- source

post office


Post office which was located in Jalan Besar was constructed in year 1910. Initially, the postal service was under Federal Government administration. This building was shared with Telegraph Services one of Jabatan Telekom services. When Jabatan Telekom was privatized fully in 1989, this service was transferred to the current Telekom Malaysia's main building.

At first, entrance to this post office was facing towards Jalan Besar. But after the huge flood incident in 1971, the main entrance had been shifted to as where it is now.

Post services began to be privatised on 1 January 1992 and known as Pos Malaysia until now. This building had undergone various modifications until being upgraded to the newest in 2002. Branch Manager and his staff had beautify the area and give quality service to the society, in 2004, Pos Malaysia Lipis branch has been accredited as the best Post Office in Malaysia.

The uniqueness historic place at Kuala Lipis was zero marked stone near Post Office. Zero marked stone indicate the beginning of measuring distance of Pahang where its starting point was at Kuala Lipis.- majlis daerah lipis website

This old photo was photographed in 1971 during a massive flood. The field that used to be a playground was flooded. There was also a cafe known as Ah Kow Cafe (Kantin Ah Kow) situated in this area. The most favourite local cuisine was mouthwatering kuih pau.

The area that used to be a playground is currently a shopping center, Lipis Centerpoint. This building was built in around 1995.

old police station


These two houses were used to be a police station in Benta Estate. This police station had been abandoned for more than six years ago. All of the officers were transferred to a nearby police station at Benta or Kuala Lipis.

*Benta Estate- located about 16km from K.Lipis town.

past and present

i. the old picture was taken in 1950's. i'm not so sure about the exact year. the location was at the back of the Malay Hostel, Clifford School. but now this hostel has become the school's administration office.
ii. the old picture was taken in 1926 in front of the Malay Hostel.


iii. a group of local people at a Benta cinema in 1955. In 1980's this cinema was demolished and replaced with community hall. Benta is small town located 30 km from Kuala Lipis.

iv. A big flood that happened in 1971. Many places in Malaysia was flooded and Benta was one of the area affected. The old picture shows that the locals rafted along the main road of Benta.


v. A flood in 1971. The bridge is still strong till now.

This building was used as a school hostel. But now it is an administration office.

This school was built in 1913. The founder of this school is V.N. Bartlett. He was born in Ceylon and became the first school principal.
In 1928, Sir Hugh Clifford launched this school and this school was named after him.
In Malaysian language it is called Sekolah Menengah Clifford.
